The PYL Mission Statement

The PYL Mission Statement was originated with the organization in 1995. Between 1995 and 1997 the Statement was modified to what is shown below. PYL has been operating under this Statement since that point in time.

PENFIELD YOUTH LACROSSE IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT ASSOCIATION OF PARENTS AND VOLUNTEERS WHO SHARE A COMMON MISSION OF PROVIDING TO SCHOOL AGED-CHILDREN, A COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATION TO PROMOTE SPORTSMANSHIP, TRAINING AND PLAYING EXPERIENCE IN THE SPORT OF LACROSSE.

Penfield Youth Lacrosse will provide a quality lacrosse program including skill development and competition for youths of various ages.

Penfield Youth Lacrosse will solicit moral and financial help from citizens and businesses to fund its programs.

Key differences between our indoor Winter program and our outdoor Spring programs:

Indoor Outdoor
Sponsored and run by the Penfield Recreation Department.

Geared towards introduction of the fundamentals of individual lacrosse play - passing, catching, cradling and scooping ground balls.

PYL and non-PYL coaches are used.

No actual lacrosse games are played.

Absolutely no body hitting is allowed or encouraged.

Use of a protective cup and mouth piece are highly encouraged.

Goalie play is usually not covered.

Soft "sponge" lacrosse balls are used. These balls make some tasks (such as cradling and catching) a bit tougher to master, but we won't break any lights in the process.

Age ranges are typically mixed across a broad range.

Sessions are once a week for 4-6 weeks.

Sponsored and run by Penfield Youth Lacrosse.

Includes participant membership in US Lacrosse. Among other benefits, this includes insurance coverage for all US Lacrosse sanctioned events.

Covers fundamentals of individual lacrosse play and then moves in to all aspects of game play.

Lacrosse games against neighboring towns are played. All PYL teams also play in at least one tournament during the season.

Coached by PYL coaching staff.

Regulation lacrosse balls are used.

Child WILL NOT be allowed to participate without proper equipment, including protective cup and mouthpiece.

Individual goalie play is covered.

Incidental body contact is allowed.

Age ranges are very specific.

Sessions are 2-3 times per week, plus games, over 8-12 weeks.

What does the #19 signify in the Penfield Lacrosse logo?
The #19 is used in the memory of Todd Bernhardt, a lacrosse player from Penfield who lost his life at too young an age.
