PYL Spring Season

THE SPRING PYL SEASON RUNS FROM EARLY APRIL THROUGH EARLY JUNE. All players, all experience levels are welcome!

SPRING PYL PRACTICES are currently (2007) held at Greenwood Park in Penfield (see link to map on PYL home page). Typical start date (first practice) is the first or second Monday in April, weather dependent! Start times are TBD, usually 6pm, coaches will discuss with players at first practice.

The boys and girls teams will schedule three practices per week (currently M/W/F). Players are expected to make two of the three. Working around other schedules (i.e., Little League baseball, soccer, etc.) makes things busy but is typically not a problem.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY:
  • We will practice in steady light/intermittent/moderate rain.

  • We will NOT practice in steady, heavy rain.

  • We will NOT practice if there is lightning in the area 5:30pm or afterwards unless it has ceased for 30 minutes.

  • If we are on the field, at the first lightning we head all players to cars. If you are not there your child will be in a teammates car.

  • If we start practice and the weather looks "iffy", please stick around or close by!

SPRING PYL GAMES for all teams are scheduled by the Rochester Area Lacrosse League (see RALL link on right) and typically start the last weekend in April or first weekend in May. NOTE - the RALL schedule is subject to change often, so please check often!

Players must make two practices the week prior to a game in order to play. See the RALL site (link on right) for latest game schedules, locations and maps.

SPRING SEASON ENDS typically with all PYL teams participating in the Fairport Classic Festival in early June.

Many towns and locales run tournaments all summer long and into fall. Since summer/fall practice time is sparse, the teams at these tournaments typically consist of players with experience. The games are more competitive than the RALL season games. Summer/fall is the "travel" season for youth lacrosse.

In the past, interested Penfield parents and/or coaches have formed teams to play in these summer/fall tournaments. These are not PYL teams, they may or may not be run like PYL teams and participants pay for all expenses. Any parent wishing to take on the task is welcome to form a team!

What does the #19 signify in the Penfield Lacrosse logo?
The #19 is used in the memory of Todd Bernhardt, a lacrosse player from Penfield who lost his life at too young an age.
